Ray Allen Manufacturing has spent more than seven decades making purpose-built gear for working dogs. Over the years, we have developed thousands of products, and each has been refined through real-world testing and handler feedback. Today, rather than introducing something entirely new, we’re reintroducing three of our most trusted harnesses, now updated with a major improvement: a redesigned Nomad-style Y chest piece for enhanced comfort, balance, and performance.
Building on the Foundation of Proven Gear
The update applies to three of Ray Allen’s most popular harnesses:
- The CORE Harness
- The Guardian Harness
- The SAR Harness
Each model serves a different role in a working dog’s toolkit, but all benefit from this redesigned chest piece inspired by the Nomad Harness design.
For years, the previous Y-shaped chest pad featured nylon material with a small center ring and rounded triangular padding. While effective, advancements in material design and ergonomics allowed us to improve how the chest piece fits, distributes pressure, and moves with the dog’s natural gait. The new wider Y-cut minimizes shifting and ensures the harness conforms naturally to the shape of the dog’s chest, delivering a more stable fit during movement and higher pressure activities.
Harness Updates Explained
CORE Harness
Long known as a rugged, dependable choice for active and working dogs, the CORE Harness now features the upgraded Nomad-style chest piece. This improvement provides a wider, more anatomical fit across the dog’s sternum, helping the harness stay centered and comfortable even during high-mobility applications. Handlers will still find the same durable construction, MOLLE webbing, and GT Cobra Buckle system that made the CORE a staple in the field. It’s now refined with better balance and contact points.
Guardian Harness
The Guardian Harness, recognized for its lightweight design and flexibility during tracking or SAR operations, benefits greatly from this chest update. The new structure allows the pressure from a rear leash attachment to transfer evenly through the chest instead of pulling to one side. Even though the GT Cobra Buckle is lightweight, previous harnesses (like many in the industry) could still lean slightly depending on the dog’s body shape. The Nomad-style chest corrects this by aligning the harness in a straight line along the body, ensuring comfort and functionality, especially during long-duration searches or tracks.
SAR Harness
The SAR (Search and Rescue) Harness, designed for extended wear and maximum mobility, now features the same upgraded chest padding for even more comfort during difficult terrain work. Built with high-visibility orange mesh and reflective detailing, the SAR remains lightweight but now delivers additional chest support that allows dogs to dig in and pull without discomfort or shifting. The Y-panel’s softer yet stable padding also improves breathability while enhancing load distribution, which is key for maintaining consistent performance during long missions.
