See The Atlas Grip Builder In Action

A powerful, confident grip is not built by accident. It comes from intentional bite development, progressive training, and equipment that challenges the dog without turning every session into the same routine. The Atlas Grip Builder was developed to give working dog handlers a practical way to build jaw strength, bite stamina, grip consistency, and confidence on the bite.
Created in collaboration with Jourdan Henderson of Inkentshane K9, the Atlas Grip Builder is more than a weighted bite toy. It is a progressive workout system for the K9, built to be worked by the dog during structured training, walks, warmups, or treadmill sessions.
More Than a Weight Ball
Weighted balls and similar tools have their place, but weight alone does not create a stronger working grip. We wanted to create a system that adds resistance while encouraging the dog to maintain pressure, engage the jaw and head muscles, and settle into a fuller, more committed bite.
The Atlas Grip Builder base uses high-density plastic, or HDP, with a Syntek bite surface on one side and loop Velcro on the other. When the system is folded and strapped, the HDP naturally tries to return to its original shape. That creates controlled opposition pressure as the dog bites and holds.
The dog has to answer that pressure by gripping down and staying committed. Think of it like a grip workout for an athlete, whether that means hanging from a bar, working a climbing hold, or building hand strength in combat sports. The principle is the same: progressive resistance builds capacity over time.
Progressive Resistance for Stronger Bites
The Atlas Grip Builder allows handlers to progress the workload as their dogs get stronger. Three included straps control the amount of opposition pressure created when the base is folded:
- Green strap: Easy resistance
- Yellow/Coyote strap: Medium resistance
- Red strap: Hard resistance
Each level changes the presentation and tension of the bite surface, allowing a dog to develop gradually instead of being thrown into the hardest setup on day one. As confidence, endurance, and grip strength increase, handlers can move from green to yellow, then to red.
That progression can help build:
- Stronger jaw and grip strength
- Better stamina during bite work
- More consistent, confident grips
- Improved resistance to fatigue
- A calmer, fuller bite that can help reduce typewriter biting
The goal is not simply to make a dog bite harder. It is to develop a stronger, steadier, more resilient grip that holds up through demanding working dog training.
Add Weight When the Dog Is Ready
Once the dog has progressed through the strap resistance levels, the Atlas Grip Weight Bags add another level of challenge. Each bag adds approximately 1 to 1.5 pounds, allowing handlers to add up to 9 pounds of total weight to the system.
Weight bags attach to the Grip Builder while maintaining the system's natural opposition pressure. This means the dog is not only holding against the resistance created by the HDP base, but also moving and stabilizing additional weight.
That combination creates a more complete workout for dogs that are ready for it. It gives handlers a controlled way to build strength and stamina without relying on random homemade setups or trying to turn every bite session into a maximum-effort exercise.
A System That Grows with the Dog
Some dogs eventually outwork the original resistance. When the Grip Builder begins sitting flat or no longer rebounds with enough tension, the HDP Grip Insert can be added to restore and increase the workload.
The insert integrates directly with the base using hook-and-loop Velcro. It adds another layer of HDP structure and opposition pressure, giving advanced dogs a harder challenge while keeping the same familiar system. It can also be used alongside the weight bags for a highly customizable training setup.
The three-part platform gives handlers room to scale training based on the individual dog:
- Start with the Grip Builder Base and the appropriate resistance strap.
- Progress through easy, medium, and hard opposition pressure.
- Add Grip Weight Bags as the dog develops strength and stamina.
- Install the HDP Grip Insert when the dog is ready for more resistance.
Important Safety Reminder
The Atlas Grip Builder straps must be used every time a K9 works the system. Do not allow a dog to use the Grip Builder without the straps in place.
The straps control the opposition pressure created by the folded HDP base. Without them, the system can produce excessive pressure and may lead to equipment damage or injury. Like any bite-development equipment, the Atlas Grip Builder should be introduced thoughtfully and used as part of a structured working dog training program.
Build Strength. Build Stamina. Build the Grip.
The Atlas Grip Builder was made for handlers who want more than another toy or another weight ball. It is a purpose-built K9 strength training system that puts progressive resistance, controlled pressure, and real bite development in one package.
For protection dogs, patrol K9s, sport dogs, and other serious working dogs, grip is more than a moment. It is strength, commitment, stamina, and confidence built one rep at a time.
