Meet the Nomad Harness: One Platform, Multiple Missions
Oct 8th 2026
A working dog's equipment needs can change from one assignment to the next. Tracking calls for one setup, patrol work another, and cold weather or specialized deployments add their own requirements. The Nomad Interchangeable Harness System™ brings those needs together around one adaptable platform.
We built the Nomad around a straightforward idea: change the components, not the entire harness. This first installment in the Nomad series explores the frame, its control features, and the interchangeable bodies that make the system work.
The Frame Comes First
The foundation of the Nomad is its webbing-based harness frame. Rather than treating handles and leash attachments as isolated additions, the construction ties those connection points into the surrounding webbing.
For handlers, the layout provides several practical options:
- Three handles, including two horizontal handles and one vertical “suitcase” handle, offer accessible grip points for close control and assisted movement.
- Two top-mounted V-rings provide front and rear attachment options for leads and tracking lines.
- An adjustable Y-chest frame allows the harness to be fitted to the individual dog.
- Four buckles provide access from either side, reducing the need to thread the dog's legs through the harness during removal.
That consistent layout matters. Whether the dog is working a track or moving through a patrol scenario, familiar handles and attachment points help the handler work with the same core equipment.
Four Buckles, Two Hardware Options
The Nomad uses four buckles, with hardware on both sides of the frame. This balanced arrangement helps avoid concentrating buckle weight on one side and makes the harness easier to open for fitting and removal.
The Nomad harness lineup includes both polymer GT Cobra and metal Cobra buckle versions:
- GT Cobra buckles are rated at 500 pounds each.
- Metal Cobra buckles are rated at 2,500 pounds each.
These are individual buckle ratings, not an overall harness rating or blanket approval for lifting or rappelling. Specialized work requires the appropriate components, correct fitting, and task-specific training.
Change the Body, Keep the Platform
The Nomad's defining feature is its modularity. The Patrol Combo includes the Nomad Patrol Body, which adds laser-cut MOLLE, VELCRO® panels for identification, and attachment options for compatible accessories.
The body attaches around the frame through designated slots and hook-and-loop connections. It can be removed and exchanged while retaining the underlying harness.
That means the handler can change the dog's setup without learning an entirely different handle arrangement or leash connection layout. The frame stays familiar, even when the equipment around it changes.
For example, a handler can run the Patrol Body for routine work, then configure the same platform with a compatible component for a different environment or assignment.
Build Around the Assignment
The Nomad I.H.S.™ collection includes harness variations and purpose-built components that expand the platform:
- Nomad Patrol Body for identification panels and modular accessory carry.
- Nomad Woobie Jacket for cold-weather coverage.
- Nomad Skid Plate Body for added coverage when navigating challenging terrain.
- Nomad Swiss Seat for a dedicated K9 rappelling configuration.
- Nomad Ballistic Body options for specialized protective setups.
Each component serves a different purpose. Handlers should review its specifications, compatibility, and instructions rather than assuming every configuration offers the same capability.
The advantage is flexibility. Instead of carrying a separate complete harness for every task, handlers can build a kit around a common frame and add compatible components as their needs develop.
A System That Can Grow
The Nomad is more than a patrol harness with extra attachment points. It is a working dog equipment platform designed to keep core handling features consistent while giving the team room to adapt.
We make the Nomad in the USA, with the needs of working dogs and their handlers at the center of the design. Future installments in this series will take a closer look at individual components and how they fit into the system.
