Nomad Swiss Seat: Rear Support for K9 Rappelling and Rigging
Oct 21st 2026
A working dog's harness supports the front of the body, but rigging operations call for attention to the back half, too. During rappelling, hoisting, or other suspended movement, rear-body containment helps keep the dog positioned within the harness system.
The Nomad Swiss Seat™ adds that support to the Nomad platform. In this installment of the Nomad series, the focus shifts from the harness frame to a purpose-built accessory for teams that work beyond ground level.
What Does a K9 Swiss Seat Do?
The Swiss Seat is an adjustable webbing assembly that supports and contains the dog's hindquarters. It complements the chest structure of the Nomad harness, helping reduce the risk of the dog sliding backward out of the harness during rigging.
That additional containment matters when the dog's position changes or excitement increases. Rather than relying on the front harness alone, the combined setup provides support around both ends of the body.
We designed the Nomad Swiss Seat for specialized applications such as:
- K9 rappelling and hoisting
- Zip-line transportation
- Fast-rope operations
- Helicopter and aircraft deployment requiring rigging
These are technical tasks that require trained personnel, appropriate equipment, and established procedures. The Swiss Seat is one component of that system, not a substitute for rigging instruction or a complete safety plan.
Adjustable Support for Different Builds
Working dogs vary in size, body length, and proportions. The Nomad Swiss Seat adjusts to accommodate those differences, allowing the webbing to be fitted around the rear legs and hindquarters.
The goal is controlled support, not simply tightening every strap as far as possible. Correct adjustment helps contain the back half of the dog while allowing appropriate movement within the setup.
Because the seat connects to the Nomad harness, rear support works with the existing frame rather than as a separate piece of equipment.
Three Buckles for Practical Attachment and Removal
The Nomad Swiss Seat uses three Cobra FM buckles, each rated at 800 pounds. That figure applies to each individual buckle, not an overall system load rating.
The three-buckle layout makes the accessory straightforward to attach and remove. Once the dog is safely supported on the ground and the system is unloaded, the seat can be unclipped and detached so the team can transition to the next task.
For handlers, that means rear-body support when rigging is required without leaving the accessory in place for every part of the assignment.
Built Specifically for the Nomad Harness
Compatibility is essential: the Nomad Swiss Seat is designed for use with Nomad harnesses. It is not a universal rappel seat and should not be attached to an unrelated harness based on appearance alone.
As part of the Nomad Interchangeable Harness System™, it extends the capabilities of a familiar platform. The handler retains the Nomad's core layout while adding the rear support needed for specialized transportation.
Before use, handlers should confirm fit, attachment, equipment condition, and suitability for the planned operation according to manufacturer guidance and their team's procedures.
