The Barkin Bag was created for handlers who expect more from an equipment bag. It needed to carry working dog gear, stand up to muddy training days and travel, and still look right when it is carried into a hotel, an airport, a competition, or a night out. In other words, it had to be built for the field and finished for the spotlight.

That idea starts with a simple truth: working dogs are athletes. Whether a K9 is training for sport, working patrol, competing, detecting, tracking, or simply putting in serious reps, the handler has invested time, discipline, and purpose into building that dog. Professional athletes have their tunnel walk. The Barkin Bag brings that same sense of arrival to the K9 world.

Beyond the Typical Dog Gear Bag

Most dog gear bags fall into one of two camps. They are either low-cost duffels that offer little structure or longevity, or they are aggressively tactical bags that look like they belong on a deployment, even when the handler is headed to a trial, a seminar, or the airport.

We wanted to build something different.

The Barkin Bag carries enough working-dog DNA to stay useful, including Salute fabric accents and MOLLE-compatible attachment areas, but its waxed canvas construction gives it a more refined, everyday look. Handlers can still stage accessories where they need them, but the bag does not have to announce itself before the dog ever comes out of the vehicle.

A 4" x 5" loop panel also provides a place for a patch, name tape, or personal touch.

With a 40L capacity and dimensions of 18" x 14" x 10", the Barkin Bag has room for a serious training day, a weekend trip, or the gear that somehow always ends up in the truck. Its pack cloth liner helps handle wet toys, dirty equipment, and the regular mess that comes with working dogs, while making cleanup straightforward.

A Nod to Where We Started

The Barkin Bag is a new product, but it is not disconnected from Ray Allen Manufacturing history.

Before Ray Allen built equipment for K9 professionals, he and Frankie established a saddle and harness business in Colorado Springs in 1948. That saddle and tack heritage helped shape the Barkin Bag.

Its construction includes intentional references to traditional saddlebags, including its rounded profile, gusseted structure, over-the-top closure, and durable carry-focused design. It is not a reproduction of old tack. It is a modern working dog bag that respects the craftsmanship and problem-solving mentality that came before it.

Even the slip-through closure concept has roots in heritage carry goods. Historically, secure post bags used a pass-through strap arrangement that could be closed and locked to protect the mail inside. The Barkin Bag updates that idea with a practical magnetic closure, giving handlers quick access without unnecessary buckles or complicated hardware.
