Officer Steve Shawley and his K9 partner, Chase, exemplify courage, commitment, and service in the line of duty. On November 24, 2023, Officer Shawley and K9 Chase responded to assist fellow officers in locating a suspect involved in a violent domestic dispute who was believed to be armed. Officers located the suspect walking down an alley and issued multiple commands to stop, which he ignored while reaching into a bag around his waist. As Officer Shawley deployed K9 Chase for an apprehension, the suspect turned and opened fire, striking both Officer Shawley and Chase. Despite sustaining gunshot wounds, their actions helped neutralize a dangerous situation and potentially saved lives. Both have since made a full recovery and returned to active duty, continuing to serve their community with distinction.
