This series isn’t about training tips or tutorials, but rather about helping handlers understand why our gear is built the way it is, and what problems it’s designed to solve.
The Inspiration Behind the Run Belt
The idea for the Run Belt came from the success of the Peak by Ray Allen Trail Belt. The Trail Belt became a must-have piece of gear for hikers who wanted to carry essentials like water, pouches, and accessories while their dogs helped pace them up the trail. But when it came to running, weight and bounce became a problem. Runners needed something lighter. They needed something that could deliver the same level of utility but with less bulk and more movement.
So the Run Belt was developed from the ground up with a focus on minimalism and comfort. It’s made for those long, easy runs where you and your dog fall into rhythm together. It’s for clearing your head, getting outdoors, and staying connected. Just you and your dog on the trail.
Designing for Comfort and Simplicity
Every part of the Run Belt was carefully considered through extensive hands-on testing. The wide phone pouch sits directly across the runner’s lower back, holding weight evenly and eliminating bounce. It’s sized to fit even large phones with cases or MagSafe wallets, and its structured shape prevents folding or sagging during movement.
A smaller 7-inch pouch was added after multiple design iterations to find the perfect balance of storage and structure. Its combination of Squadron material and Cordura allows the pouch to hold its shape while still stretching enough to accommodate smaller items like keys, earbuds, or nutrition packs. The Velcro closure system keeps everything secure without adding extra bulk.
The result is a lightweight, ergonomic belt that fits comfortably, even during long-distance runs. It also includes MOLLE slots on each side for optional gear attachments and reflective accents for visibility during low-light runs.
Why It Exists
The Run Belt wasn’t designed to be flashy or overloaded with gear storage. It was made for the kind of running that matters most, steady, mindful adventures that strengthen the bond between handler and dog. It’s not about racing, pulling, or high-speed work. It’s about getting outside, moving together, and keeping things simple.
